Pinsa romana: a tradition to enjoy bite after bite

Pinsa Romana is an Italian culinary gem that has its roots in ancient Rome. Characterized by a light, crisp dough different from the better-known pizza, its oval shape and unique texture make this dish an unforgettable taste experience.

Whether it is topped with prosciutto and arugula, tomato and mozzarella or more, pinsa romana is the perfect dish to enjoy with family or friends. Let's dive into the traditional recipe enriched by our Oil IGP Sicilia: a combination that transforms a simple dish into a culinary experience that smacks of authentic tradition.

Ingredients:

  • 500 g of type 1 flour
  • 350 ml of water
  • 15 g of salt
  • 1 g of brewer's yeast
  • 1 teaspoon of sugar
  • IGP Sicilia Primoamore oil for the garnish

Procedure:

  • Dissolve brewer's yeast and sugar in warm water, letting it sit for 10 minutes until bubbles form.
  • In a bowl mix the flour with the salt and gradually add the water and yeast, stirring until a smooth dough forms.
  • Knead the dough on a floured surface until it is elastic.
  • Cover it with a tea towel and let it rise for about 2 hours.
  • After 2 hours have passed, roll out the dough on an oiled baking sheet, giving it an oval shape.
  • Complete your pinsa with the topping of your choice-it's time to unleash your imagination and indulge your most craving!
  • Bake for 15-20 minutes at 250°C

The Perfect Pairing: Oil IGP Sicilia Primoamore

Your pinsa is almost ready: to best appreciate its unique flavor and intensify its taste and ensure a perfect harmony of flavors, we recommend to top it off with a drizzle of extra virgin olive oil IGP Primoamore. This oil, with its fruity notes and balanced character, adds a touch of refinement and depth to the pinsa, enhancing the softness and crispness of the base. For best results, gently pour the oil over the surface of the freshly baked pinsa, making sure to distribute it evenly. Finally, take your time with each bite, letting the flavors meld harmoniously, and enjoy the authentic culinary experience of the Roman tradition. The perfect finishing touch to finish and enhance the flavor of your dish. And voilà!

Accompaniments and beverages: a complete dining experience

To best complement the dining experience of pinsa romana, we recommend pairing it with drinks and accompaniments that enhance its unique flavor. Drinks include fresh, fruity white wines that can balance the lightness with fruity and floral notes. If beer is preferred, a light craft beer can be an ideal alternative. As for accompaniments, a selection of Italian cured meats and cheeses, such as buffalo mozzarella, mortadella, or prosciutto, are a perfect match, offering a variety of flavors and textures that complement harmoniously with its soft and crispy base at the same time. In addition, a fresh salad with cherry tomatoes and arugula dressed with extra virgin olive oil can add a note of freshness and lightness to the meal: in this case we recommend our Italian extravirgin olive oil, an oil with a strong and intense flavor that perfectly enhances simple but equally tasty dishes.
